Synopsis
Recent newsfeed has been filled with topic of climate change and rise in global average temperature. Increased carbon dioxide (CO
2) emission is one of the culprits which lead to this climate catastrophe, and according to BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2019, Malaysia’s CO
2 emissions in 2018 increased by 3.6% from previous year to 250.3 million tonnes, where one of the main contributors is electricity consumption
(1).
For most buildings, usage of electricity can be further optimized, even with small changes like selection of exterior cladding colour and choosing of sustainable cladding material in the aspects of longevity and recyclability. Over this seminar, we would like to share how to choose the relevant material to achieve lower building electricity consumption.
Rocky Shet obtained his bachelor’s degree (with honours) in Mechanical Engineering from Monash University Malaysia and is currently working in steel industry for building construction sector as a technical marketing engineer. He is responsible for providing trainings and product presentations of coated steel products to developers, architects, contractors and other relevant parties covering Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and South Africa regions.
Rocky’s experience includes providing consultation on building material selection based on different design intent and assisting building designers to achieve green building status based on known green building rating tools such as Green Building Index. Rocky also has experience conducting site visits on past projects to study the material performance of external cladding for constant product research and development purpose.
He is actively involved in professional bodies such as Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) and Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) in conducting technical seminar and factory visit to educate on the understanding of coated steel and its importance. To uplift the standard of building material in Malaysia, he is involved in the development of Malaysian Standards for coated steel and corrugated steel sheets such as MS 1196, MS 2383, and MS 2500.
