Synopsis
AK+ believes that the world would be a better place if architecture could be the instrument to break down the walls that separate us.
In this talk, we will demonstrate the architecture that creates change and fosters connections, seeking to better the world through work that inspires others to reimagine what is possible for a vision to create open communities living in togetherness.
A wall with design possibilities from across time to create values that last.
Central to the AK+ approach is a keen sensitivity to site, materials, cultures and human relations, coupled with the unyielding desire to develop new solutions and improve upon existing ones. Its process is characterized by a strong focus on simplicity and timelessness, striving to create work whose relevance and utility to society does not diminish, but rather grows over time and adapting to meet ever-changing needs through the careful use of space.
AK+ looks to foster bonds between people and the natural world by bringing nature into the everyday and blurring the distinctions between what is deemed “inside” and “outside”. In this way, AK+ hopes to awaken a sense of curiosity and inspire others to explore their relationships with nature. Our brand is characterized by a mindful simplicity closely informed by nature, paired with an approach that is deeply rooted in tradition with a view to designing the future.
Moving well past the widespread preoccupation with green certifications and energy efficiency, we expound on the popular conception of sustainability by incorporating the sustenance of culture into its approach. Key here is the fine balance between traditional and new: pushing boundaries and exploring new possibilities while maintaining a deep respect for tradition, AK+ draws inspiration from the cultures in which it operates while retaining the essence of its own. Through its efforts to upscale the everyday, AK+ is able to reinstate value that has been lost, thereby eliciting newfound forms of appreciation. In this way, what was once ordinary is now elevated into something truly special.
A wall that connects and reshapes the way that our industry thinks and works, spurring progress by enabling collaboration between creatives across various disciplines.
In every aspect of the work, we would like our work to be permeable in nature, drawing up necessary boundaries which support connectivity rather than impede it. In this sense, AK+ endeavors to create work that brings people together, encouraging the formation of meaningful connections by nurturing new ties and rekindling old ones. This approach naturally gives rise to communal gathering spaces, promoting the discovery of new possibilities through social interaction.
In the grand scheme of things, our projects serve as the catalyst which not only alters the shape of architecture and design thinking, but to redefine the way in which the industry operates. Ultimately, AK+ looks to empower creatives across a variety of fields by orchestrating collaborations which will inspire unprecedented progress.
